Swimming in Chicago Beer!

Chicago Craft Beer Week officially kicked off Thursday night with Beer Under Glass at the Garfield Park Conservatory.   Yours Truly was not able to attend, but I’m sure it came off swimmingly.  I was content with a mid-day All Day IPA from Founders at the The Map Room.

Speaking of Founders, the brewery’s rep John Freyer will be at West Lakeview Liquors (Addison and Leavitt) tonight sampling some special Founders beers, as Chicago’s best little beer store celebrates Chicago CBW.  There will also be a sampling of 40-oz bottles of various malt liquors. Brown paper bags may be provided, and Cubs and Sox fans can take them home for reuse. The fun starts at 6 pm, and I hope to make this one.

Speaking of The Map Room, the first-ever Craft Day Afternoon – co-sponsored by The Map Room and Fizz Chicago – runs from 1 to 5 pm on Saturday at Fizz, 3220 N Lincoln Ave. All proceeds will go to support two great Chicago schools, Hamilton and Morton Elementary Schools. Complete details at http://maproom.com/cda.htm.   Craft beers from 30+ of the world’s best craft breweries (and local craft distillery, KOVAL) will be featured.  The irrepressible Randy Mosher will be on hand to sign copies of his books, Radical Brewing and Tasting Beer.  There are still tickets available, and there may even be a chance to buy them at the door. For $50 you can help a good cause, have some great beer and food, take home a souvenir glass, and taste beer with the man who continues to define what tasting beer is all about.

There are tons of things to do this week. You can find out more at the CCBW website. Follow the link at the top of this post. Cheers!
